The Esse Love Story

Meet the Founder

It all started in 2019 when Fern, the founder and president of Esse, was out skating and broke his ankle. Even though his injury kept him off his board for several months, it could not interrupt his love for skateboarding and its community.

Giving out skateboards and gear to the kids of the skate community was something Fern had already been doing for years. With a vision to elevate the entire Bay Area skate community, he was inspired to use his recovery time to start a company with the help of his brother — and Esse was born.

Meet the Machine

Fern spent over 4 years building the Esse brand, creating his own designs for apparel and skate gear. Just as he was looking to elevate the brand even further and take its impact beyond the Bay Area, he crossed paths with Julia. With Fern’s creative vision combined with Julia’s technical skills, they have embarked on a mission together to bring Esse and its entire community to the next level.
